I Loves You Too Porgy.

Essays handed in and I'm semi-free for the next couple of weeks (lots of reading has to be done though). Today was supposed to be spent shopping, taking in some festive spirit and then seeing a movie I've been waiting and waiting to see. So far things aren't going to plan and I blame Nina Simone! Lounging around, listening to her music is so much better than to brave the cold outside...

Not So Nimble Fingers.

Earlier this week I somehow jammed my middle finger in a lock and while preparing dinner earlier tonight I sliced off a bit of my ring finger, and tonight I really need to type!

The 90s.

Saw this at the Kingdom of Style and I found myself nodding in agreement, what I was wearing during those [insert adjective of choice] teenage years colour what I wear today, in one way or another.

"In a way, my remaining the same stylistically reminds me of fun times and I think that's why we sometimes find it hard to let go of a look, even if it's one your rocked at 14.

I suppose it is true that if you wear something long enough it does eventually come back in style!"

So yeah, Doc Martens, Puma sneakers, vintage EVERYTHING, old oversized parkas, duffle coats, you name it, I still have a soft spot for them. I'm not saying I'd wear exactly the same stuff but the big picture hasn't changed much..I think (which is why that stuff is still hanging in a closet somewhere, I can't bear to throw it away).

Side note: the essay on foreign aid is done! It isn't as horrible as I thought it was a couple of days ago but it has a horribly harsh bottom line, as in "That was way harsh Tai!". Another memento from the 90s :)

Playing Host Slash Tourist.

My heavily pregnant sister arrived on Friday and I've been playing host slash tourist since, her trip starting at Stansted Airport's Costa with her bratty little sister being rather late picking her up (bloody Stansted non-Express!).

We've been all over; Kensington, Regent's Park, Soho, Oxford Street, Marylebone High Street and last but certainly not least, Fulham. Marylebone High Street was especially nice, I haven't been there in a while. The Conran Shop, Rococo Chocolates, the Prince Regent and Waitrose are the highlights of that particular street.

The Villandry was also very cool indeed.

My sister (and future nephew) went to bed 3 hours ago and I've been watching Dave since, enjoying having the flat to myself (one flatmate is in Cuba, the other out drinking), I think it's time for me to go bed now, after all, it's Harrods tomorrow!

Mrs Miggin's Pie Shoppe.

I've been living here in my mansion in W14 for about 2 months but today was the first time I went into the pub right opposite my house, The Colton Arms, a legendary pub that 's been in the same family for generations and has the weirdest opening hours.

In short, it is Mrs Miggin's Pie Shoppe from Black Adder! As you can see:

They do not serve food, it only seats about 10 people (2 tables), there is no logic to the hours it's open, they have very few beers on tap but to their credit you can get Budvar in a bottle there. The cash register is original, it looks like it's made of bronze or something, you have to really hit those buttons and I felt almost guilty for 'making' the old man having to stand up, pull the pint and then walk back to the cash register to put the 3 pounds 20 (!) in.

I don't think I'll be frequenting the Colton Arms but it's nice to know what it's like.

Pushing Daisies.

Don't remember if I'd mentioned this already or not, but Pushing Daisies is a wonderful new show (that will undoubtedly be cancelled sooner rather than later because it isn't Everybody Loves Raymond) that I highly recommend.

Ludo, Cluedo, Poirot?

Woohoo! If this is as good as it sounds, I think Cluedo has some tough competition this Christmas (or even *gasp!* Ludo)!
